Code Of Arms Records is an independent electronic record label based in New York City, specializing in Dubstep, Grime and other Bass music.
Code Of Arms first appeared in August of 2007 with its own special brand of U.S. Dubstep crossed with Dirty-south acappellas, dubbed The Dirtystep Mixtape Vol. I, featuring the production work of Nebulla and DJ Dore. The mixtape was released as a promotional bootleg and received unexpected acclaim. This set the stage for the first official digital releases on C.O.A. Records. In the summer of 2008 the label released its first vinyl pressing with core members Nebulla and Dore again on the buttons. Since then, C.O.A. has grown to include a burgeoning roster of artists from across the U.S. and around the globe. The label now sports a sizable catalog of distinctive dub-influenced production and synth-heavy club bangers.
Hailing from New York City and already a longtime Jungle and Drum and Bass enthusiast, Nebulla has over the years refined his style with a clear dedication to mash-up genres. In 2007 Nebulla teamed up with DJ Dore to create the Dirtystep Mixtape series. Volumes 1 and 2 were well received and led to an avalanche of Crunk/Dirtysouth influenced Dubstep production. Nebulla started Code Of Arms Records in the summer of 2007. Los Angeles based label La Dubstep Nostra signed Nebulla and Dore in 2008 for their Czar Black Remix Gettin’ Doe, which was released on vinyl along with tracks by Parson and 6blocc. Nebulla is currently a resident of the world famous Konkrete Jungle NYC and performs in many other New York City venues. He continues to create and perform new music, so watch out for new material from Nebulla in 2010! (www.myspace.com/djnebulla)
Soroka began making sample-based hip-hop in 2000. Later he started working with Nebulla and DJ Dore, contributing to The Dirtystep Mixtape Volume II. For Soroka, the transition from his work in architecture to producing Dubstep was a natural one. In 2007, Soroka helped formed Code Of Arms Records, the first and only dubstep label in New York City, alongside Nebulla and Dore. Since 2008, he has been a regular DJ at Konkrete Jungle NYC, as well as Darkroom, and continues to play on a regular basis in NYC and elsewhere. To Soroka, song selection, continuity and amazing drops are of the utmost importance. He has now had several releases on Code Of Arms Records, recently collaborating with the UK/Stateside grime crew First City. He was featured on “Wu-Tang Meets The Indie Culture Volume 2: Enter The Dubstep”, and also the “4Play EP” on Filthy Digital. He continues to push and refine his style of production to be heavier, deeper, and more epic. With forthcoming vinyl releases on Bassism, Playing With Fire and C.O.A., and more in the pipeline for Filthy Digital and Gamma Audio, this is sure to be a big year for Soroka. We’ve got the latest news from BMKLTSCH RCRDS, the Netherland’s hottest electro exporters right now. Their latest release is out on January 28th - the next EP from C-Mon & Kypski called “Riptide EP”.
About C-Mon & Kypski:
Eclectic visionaries C-Mon & Kypski proved themselves as genre-bending geniuses on their last album, Where the Wild Things Are, which Esquire Magazine fondly referred to as, “The hot shit in Europe right now.” 3 years later, and with extensive European and US touring under their belts, C-Mon & Kypski are back in the studio working their magic to shatter expectations and take their music to the next level with their upcoming release titled: “We Are Square”, scheduled for October 2009.
Over the course of C-Mon & Kypski’s previous three albums and the last two years spent on the road in Europe, North America and South Africa, the band has evolved from a hip-hop and electronica led turntablist duo to a bombastic, four-piece powerhouse of musical talent. The group is comprised of enigmatic producer and founding member C-Mon, fellow founding member and 6-time DMC Dutch DJ champion Kypski, Dutch Keyboardist of the Year* Jori, and guitar slinging, multi-instrumentalist, Daniel. On this highly anticipated new album, C-Mon promises an experience that’s, “…more uptempo with more guitars, more synths, more weird samples and just as wacky a ride as before!” The last album featured guests ranging from jazz musicians to rappers to a Klezmer Band, and mashed everything from flamenco to dub step. The new album maintains their unique, collaborative nature while adding new elements. As Jori asserts: “We haven’t left our electronic roots behind, we’re just exploring our skills as musicians further.”
It’s difficult to classify C-Mon & Kypski’s sound, but if you were to imagine DJ Shadow, Beck, Gogol Bordello, Fela Kuti, Super Furry Animals, and Justice crammed into a van and left to collaborate, you’ll be on your way to understanding what C-Mon and Kypski is all about. C-Mon & Kypski’s music is a fresh and unique blend of upbeat, foot-stomping sounds that have wowed critics across the globe. As Netherland’s leading music magazine, Oor, said, C-Mon & Kypski is, “Exciting and original, there’s nothing catchier!”
Their last tour, a musical and visual extravaganza dubbed, “Circus C-Mon & Kypski” impressed fans and promoters alike at The Netherlands’ biggest festivals, Pinkpop and Lowlands, and saw the band execute a triumphant national tour that culminated at the internationally prestigious North Sea Jazz festival. The band also reaped the rewards of two extensive US tours, featuring highly lauded performances at SXSW, The Roxy in LA, the Fillmore East at Irving Plaza in NY, Popscene in SF and the Metro in Chicago. C-Mon & Kypski are a band at the top of their game, yet constantly evolving. They are poised to make a global impact with We Are Square, which captures their exhilarating, daring and category busting sound.
Remember their remix last year of Wiley / Crookersthat hit #1 on Hype Machine? Well 2010 is looking even better for these guys. Black Noise have hit the New Year running. The vocal from their ‘Me Plus You’ track featuring Wizard Sleeve is part of the ‘Riverside (Lets Go!)’ track by Sidney Samson which is number 2 on the UK top 40!
The crew is currently in the studio remixing the Future Heads and working with the Mighty Fools on a collaboration. Coming out next month are the Black Noise remixes of Tommie Sunshine’smassive ‘5am’ tune and the classic ‘Comin On Strong (Feel The Rhythm)’ by Rhythm Section. In the pipeline are 2 more EPs for Southern Friedwhich are well under way and more remix action for Nick Thayerand Will Bailey.
If you missed it last thursday January 14th NOISIA came through the opening night at BFM’s newest monthly METROPOLIS! Moving from Strength to Strength all night with Small CHange, Hellfire Machina, Noisia, and Odi closing it up the night was rammed by 1230!
Our Photographer in residence Joe Wize was there to catch the action!
Big shout to the 500+ peeps who made NYE a huge success. Was absolute madness, Big Shout to The American Dream Team (killed it) and of course Claw who ripped Brooklyn a new one. Hope to see you all in February at The Giveback.

Hellfire Machina & Code of Arms from NYC introduce a smooth flowing EP to Filthy Digital Recordings. Fresh off their releases on the Wu-Tang Meets The Indie Culture Volume 2., these lads come with a serious tone. First up, Dore from the Code of Arms crew brings us a beautiful tune with the elegant mystic bagpipes hook! This one goes down well on the dancefloor & gets people moving. Hellfire Machina’s rendition of ‘Sexy Ladies’ by famed House/Techno producer Christian Scott from NYC, brings a more upbeat vibe. Deep rolling bass, smooth drums & an interesting breakdown which throws you into a scratching break pattern. Switching up the pace, Code of Arms member Nebulla featuring Chromatik punch out a smooth roller of a tune. Slowburning intro that progresses into a feelgood drop. A cool guitar lick gets introduced part way through the track & completes this head bobber. Soroka from the Code of Arms camp introduces a unique sound to the Filthy Digital imprint. A melody driven feel with mellow bass synth wobbles & enticing hook vocals accompanied by a deep sub-bass with tripped out synth melodies. Both these crews are on fire right now & look to be setting new standards in the Electronic Music world. Be on the lookout for much more from Hellfire Machina & Code of Arms in 2010.
